The last final of this year’s 65th International Divers Day was the men’s platform final. We already saw the prelims and semi-finals this morning and afternoon, but not one of the athletes looked tired in their third competition of the day.
Every one of them gave their best and treated the audience to world class diving which was reflected in the amazing atmosphere during the competition.
Ruslan Ternovoi (RUS), who had already scored the highest marks during the prelims and semi-finals, dove straight to the top of the podium and cemented his lead with every single dive. Especially his third dive impressed the judges. For the first time this weekend, we saw a 10.
Canada’s Ethan Pitman (CAN) was almost equally convincing. He got 9s from all judges and plenty of applause from the audience, which celebrated each diver after their last dive of the competition.
In the end, Ruslan Ternovoi (RUS) won gold with 477,85 points. Canada’s Ethan Pitman scored 465,90 points and came second. The bronze medal goes to Great Britain’s Mathew Dixon (420,95 points).
Congratulations to all athletes!
The final of the 65th International Divers Day and the 26th FINA Diving Grand Prix was another stunt show by our divers who took to the platform with trampolines, bikes and a broom – no matter the equipment; they made a show out of it for the entire pool.
Thanks for this highlight!
