The first of our 3 competition days was long for everyone, but each of the 11.5 hours and 534 jumps were exciting and nerve-racking.
At 9am the first preliminaries of the men started from the 3m board. 31 athletes proved their skills in 186 jumps. The 12 best entered the semi-finals. The best 3 of each semi-final were then able to fight for the medals in the last final of the day.
Alternately with the men, the woman showed us how nice they can dip into the water, while competing for the gold medal of the 10m platform. 22 women dived a total of 110 jumps in the preliminaries. Again, the best 12 of them entered the semi-finals, the best 6 made it to the final.
After the finalists had been found, the opening ceremony began with the support of the musicians of the university of music and drama in Rostock.
After the ceremonial speeches, the performance of a handstand artist and the presentation of the nations the first final of the day was the mixed from the 3m board. In this synchronous competition a woman and a man dived together from the 3m springboard. Gold went to Xiaohu Tai and Yiwen Chen from China, silver to the German duo Tina Punzel and Lou Massenberg, followed by Jahir Ocampo and Dolores Hernandes from Mexico.
The second final of the day followed. The best 6 women showed the most beautiful dives from the 10m platform. Yajie Si from China became the Queen of the platform, Viviana Del Angel from Mexico received silver and Lois Toulson from Great Britain is able to take home bronze.
The last competition of the day was the men's 3m final. This was the first victory for Germany. Patrick Hausding convinced the judges with his dives and secured the first place. The second place was taken by Jahir Ocampo from Mexico and Nikita Shleikher from Russia secured the third place.
